Surat al-Mujadilah

Juz 28 starts with Surat al -Mujadilah. Khawla bint Sa’laba was released by her husband and in the Arabian ritual of Zihar, if a guy informs his spouse ‘ You are to me like the waste side of my mother.’ This statement could not be taken back hence leaving an Oyibo lass with no status whether she is married or divorced. This story shows that Allah knows about our misery and can be prompted to its speech by serious prayers. Surat lays down the rules about secret conversations. The rule is never to plot against others. The plotting on the part of hypocrites and Jews went behind veils right under the very noses of Muslims.

Surat Al-Hashr The Gathering of the Forces

28 Juz continues with Surat al-Hashr, it is a Madani Surah and was sent down in the fourth year AH after Hijra, 627 CE during the Battle of Uhud. The main theme is the sending of the Banu al-Nadir tribe out of their fortresses in the southern part of the city. When the Prophet ﷺ came to Madinah, he signed a treaty with the three Jewish tribes.  The Jews killed him. The Messenger ﷺ inquired about the payment of blood money from them. Banu al-Nadir had instead made a plot to assassinate the Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, an apparent disregard for the treaty.

The Woman Investigated – Surat al-Mumtahana

Surat al-Mumtahana is the third one in Juz 28. The Prophet ﷺ concealed his journeys so as not to provide their foes with some information about them. He plotted action for the leaders of Quraysh. A companion gave a warning letter to a woman traveling to Makkah, Hatib ibn Balata giving it. Balata decided to appease Quraysh and save his family, who were in their possession. His idea was found out, and the letter was seized. He was rebuked but nothing happened to him for he fought in the Battle of Badr.

Surat al-Saff – The Rows

Surat al-Saff continues in Juz 28. This Madani Surat encourages the believers to be courageous and do what they say. fighting in the way of Allah when called to do so and not avoiding such a great state responsibility, which is defending the society. The Surat condemns the breakers of their pledge. Their prophets had already foreseen the arrival of Muhammad ﷺ as final messenger. In the Gospel of John 14:15, Jesus said “If you love me keep my commands and I will ask the Father to give you another advocate to assist you and be with you forever. Who was this advocate? Our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. We are told that salvation is brought about by faith and Jihad.

Al-Jumuʿah – The Day of Congregation Surat

Surat Al-Jumuʿah is a Madani Surat and mentions four important roles of the Prophet ﷺ: teaching, reciting the Quran’s verses; purifying and perfecting its followers’ qualities, interpretations of the book with wisdom. The Surat underlines the value of Friday prayers, emphasizing how much this important weekly sermon is so significant. Worshipers are urged to come early for the Friday sermon since it is a major socio-political meeting where the leader of this congregation speaks with his members.

Surat al-Munafiqun- The Hypocrites

In Juz 28, Surat al-Munafiqun continues. This Surat is based on an event that happened following the campaign of Banu Mustaliq. There was a fight between two men. One of them yelled, ‘Ansar! ‘Help me!’ cried the other one; Emigrants ! “Come to my rescue!” Both sides took action, and swords appeared. The Prophet ﷺ ran to the scene and warned them, but he managed to calm down their tempers. The prophet then permitted: Enter Hypocrisy is highly repugnant in the Quran because it implies an irresponsible nature and disloyalty. The antidote to hypocrisy: give charity.

Surat al- Thaghabun – The Mutual loss

Surat al-Thaghabun discusses Life after death. It warns that wealth, spouses and children will be a snare which could make one go astray hence break Divine laws. “Whoever can avoid greed, those will be considered successful” (16) However, on that Day of Judgement all will feel cheated , even the believers will realise they could have done more and worked harder for the Hereafter. Like this, the disbelievers will be completely devastated when they realize that the world has deceived them.

Surat al-Talaq – The Divorce

Surat al-Talaq is a Medinan Surat that discusses the termination of marriage. It lays down the right procedure to be followed, prescribed waiting periods maintenance and custody of children including breast feeding any child. These are almost like an appendix to the passage on family law in Surat al-Baqarah from 222 till 241. “On divorce,” The blessed Messenger ﷺ described the action as, “The most hateful of permissible things.” Ali , the fourth caliph إسلام allowed divorce only when life together turns so unbearable that it destroys family quality.

Surat al-Tahreem – The Prohibition

The final Surat of Juz 28 is al-Tahreem. It narrates the tale of Zainab, Muhammad’s ﷺ wife. “One day, he gave her more time than usual .Aisha protested that his breath stalk of Maghafir , a wild tree in which bees feed. The Prophet  said to her that he had eaten honey and promised never in future. The cure for sinning is “Taubatan Nasuhan” (8)—sincere and genuine repentance.
